Adapt and Flow....

Somebody once explained racing to me by telling me to be like water. Water in a river keeps on flowing at its given speed, no matter the obstacles. It goes around obstacles, over them, through them, but ultimately it keeps on flowing. “Adapt and flow” became a mantra of mine whenever I was stressed in a situation that looked like an obstacle. Change is hard. When things don’t go as we thought they would, it’s hard. Sudden obstacles are hard. But what if each one of those are actually a pivot point? A moment for you to decide which direction things are going to go, a fork in the road  where there lies an opportunity you might not have seen otherwise. We say it all the time that it often takes something drastic for people to change. We are resistant to change. I find in extreme change, I’ll  go through moments of fear, even heartbreak in some cases, anger, and so on. All of these emotions can consume you. What I’ve learned is that in each of those moments, the quicker you can accept the change, be at peace with it, and find your pivot point of opportunity from that change, the more successful you’ll come out of it. Like water…. flow, adapt, and carry on. In my most challenging moments, I’ve been forced to achieve something I didn’t even think I could do. In most cases, when I look back on big changes, something came out of it that I actually really needed to do for a long time, but was lacking the confidence or vision to do it.  Sometimes, being forced into the most challenging change is where we find our biggest growth.
