VENGA CBD

CBD FAQs

I’ve recently started working with Venga CBD, and having never taken CBD before, it’s been interesting to learn more about how it works and when/how/why to take it. I asked the guys over at Venga to put together some FAQs about CBD so you can decide if it is something you want to add to your training regimen.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil is a natural, concentrated oil that is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis Sativa plant, also commonly referred to as hemp. You can think of it kind of like an essential oil; what lavender Essential Oil is to the lavender plant, CBD oil is to hemp.

How does CBD work?

CBD works with your body’s endocannabinoid system to help regulate all of your body’s essential functions. Your body produces endocannabinoids that bind with CB1 (central nervous system) and CB2 (peripheral nervous system and immune cells) receptors to maintain homeostasis. Your body can get behind producing endocannabinoids during times of high stress, and supplementing with phytocannabinoids (CBD) helps return the body to a balanced state.

Why should I take CBD?

As an athlete, your body goes through a ton of stress. Supplementing with CBD helps your body recover faster with less soreness. Other reported benefits of regular CBD use include less anxiety, more focus, and better sleep. You can read the Venga CBD reviews for information on why and how other athletes are taking it.

Is CBD safe for athletes?

Yes. CBD is on the approved substance list for both WADA and USADA. However, many CBD products have other natural compounds included, including THC. To be safe, choosing CBD that is THC-free ensures that you will not run into any trouble with testing. Make sure you only use CBD products that give you easy access to a 3rd-party lab test result for each specific batch of products.

What is the difference between CBD brands?

When choosing a CBD brand, it is important to evaluate them on a number of criteria:

  1. What kind of CBD does their product use? Quality ranges widely when it comes to the type of CBD used. The highest-quality is medical-grade, water-soluble, PCR-rich hemp. Some brands cut costs by using industrial hemp, which is not cultivated as carefully as the former.

  2. What formulation of CBD does the product use? Full-spectrum products include all the valuable cannabinoids and terpenes from the hemp plant, including THC. Broad-spectrum products are similiar, but do not include THC. CBD Isolate is just the CBD cannabinoid, with all the other compounds removed. Hemp seed oil is akin to cooking oil, is made with the seeds of the plant only and has no therapeutic benefit. Read your labels closely!

  3. Is it easy to find their lab tests? You should be able to quickly find 3rd-party lab testing that will verify the amount of CBD, as well as any other trace amounts of other cannabinoids or impurities.

  4. What is the CBD concentration of the products? An 8oz lotion bottle with 100mg of CBD is very, very weak and not likely to produce results. On the other hand, a super-concentrated balm with 1000mg CBD in 2oz can be quite powerful.

Is it ok to just get CBD at my local supermarket?

Most CBD products sold in supermarkets are developed to meet a certain price point. You probably wouldn’t add it to your cart if it is going to double your grocery bill. The best way to achieve the lower price point is to use inferior CBD sources and have low CBD concentration. While it is great that CBD has become more accessible, it has not helped the credibility of the CBD industry because these products tend to produce few positive results.

How is Venga CBD different than other brands?

Venga CBD set out to make a simple, yet incredibly effective system of CBD products to specifically address the needs of athletes. Here’s 2 very big ways they stand apart:

  1. They remove the confusion over what to take by offering a simple system of products that specifically support training, racing, and recovery. Each product has a clear, specific purpose.

  2. Venga CBD’s cornerstone products are made with CBD that has been nano-emulsified, rendering them essentially water-soluble. This means that, unlike other CBD oils, Venga CBD is absorbed into your body at a much higher percentage - at nearly 85%, versus the 10-15% of other CBD products.
