The Danger in the Word “TOO”

The mind is a powerful thing and the stories we tell ourselves over and over are pretty influential. You might not really notice it at first. In fact it might go on for a long time where you don’t even notice it. Suddenly habits, patterns and decisions are changed in a way you don’t even see what's happening. Before you know it you are a million miles away from where you want to be.

What am I talking about when I say this?

How many of us have said, or hear someone who says this often;

  • It’s TOO cold

  • It’s TOO hot

  • It’s TOO windy

  • It’s TOO early

  • I’m TOO tired

  • TOO…TOO…TOO….

What does this result in?  Over time you suddenly are just training less. In so many opportunities you just simply didn’t show up or you left early.

You are training your mind to give up when a challenge presents itself. Rather than build skills and confidence that in any circumstances you can move forward you are teaching yourself that ultimately you can’t handle it and you should give up.

Over time this pattern adds up. It can even trickle over into your day to day life, work, relationships and ultimately if you don’t catch the pattern you are suddenly TOO far away from the person you might have desired to be for yourself.

I challenge you to do this, every time your mind shifts to the word TOO in a situation that feels difficult, stop, and then GO ANYWAYS!! Keep going!! You’ll find that likely you CAN handle it, you DO have the ability to overcome that roadblock you just thought was TOO much.

I have lived my life stepping into and through these kinds of challenges. Fear, uncertainty, worry. Every time I’ve just stepped up and moved forward right through those boundaries an entire new door opened up that brought me new levels of joy.

Turn your “TOO” into a step through and go anyways and see what doors are opened for you.
